Best tips for Galtür

Charming peaceful traditional village at the head of the valley near Ischgl. Sunnier, cheaper and much quieter than Ischgl, Galtür is a good base for a quiet family holiday or mixed-ability groups – and the free buses to Ischgl are regular and quick. Galtür’s own slopes, above a lift base at Wirl, a short bus-ride from the village, are not very challenging and can be bleak in poor weather; but the black runs are ideal for intermediates and there are fine nursery slopes. There is a small terrain-park at the top of the Soppalift drag. Galtür has 45km of cross-country loops, some quite testing. Off-slope facilities are limited, but there’s a sports centre.

  • Convenient slope-side lodging
  • Some quite challenging slopes
  • Excellent children’s nursery slopes
  • Not much of a village
  • Weekend queues
  • Exposed upper mountain
