Ski Alta – Greatest Snow On Earth Ski Poster
Ski Alta, Greatest Snow On Earth Ski Poster, notes an obvious fact that most agree which is Alta has exceptional powder and awesome skiing! It is not clear if the rest of the ski areas on Earth are in agreement with Utah’s claim to have the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’, but the phrase has also been frequently associated with Alta’s ski area.
In the later 1930s, a group of Salt Lake City skiers and businessmen began to look at Alta’s slopes as a site for a ski resort. We all thank George Watson, who donated 1800 acres of land to the US forest service so the Alta ski area could be built. The first chairlift opened in 1938, with 2020 vertical feet. The lift cost .15 cents per ride. Dick Durrance followed Carl Fahrner as the ski school director at Alta. Dick Durrance and others also trained paratroopers during WWII at Alta. All of this makes Alta one of North America’s most historic ski areas.
