Everyone loves the Berner Oberland area of Switzerland. It is a beautiful mountainous region above and south of the city Bern, in the State of Bern. The area is famous for year around mountain sports, like hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing. Fantastic ski areas and mountain towns are part of Switzerland’s Berner Oberland region, such as Grindelwald, Kandersteg, Eiger, Jungfrau, Interlaken, Jungfraubahn, Adelboden, and Gstaad. The bear is a famous mascot for the area. The story tells about how Count Berchtold V of Zahringia founded the city of Bern in 1160. According to legend he killed a large bear in the forest near his new town and named the town for the beast.
