Best tips for Arcalís-Ordino (Vallnord)
The most remote area of slopes in Andorra, tucked away at the head of a long valley. It makes a worthwhile day trip, particularly from Arinsal and Pal. The variety of the terrain at Arcalis is greater than in most of the main resorts, the slopes are usually deserted except at weekends (when locals pour in), and the snow is usually the best you will find. It provides excellent intermediate and beginner terrain, but of all Andorra’s resorts it has the most to offer experts, including lots of off-piste between the marked runs. There is no accommodation at the mountain, just a day lodge and a lot of car parking, but buildings are now springing up along the Vall d’Ordino leading up to it. Buses are not frequent.
- Convenient slope-side lodging
- Some quite challenging slopes
- Excellent children’s nursery slopes
- Not much of a village
- Weekend queues
- Exposed upper mountain
