Best tips for Axamer Lizum
Mountain outpost of the village of Axams, close to Innsbruck and popular with the locals. But it offers some of the area’s most rugged terrain and reliable snow conditions. Many of the Olympic Alpine events in 1976 were held on its compact but interesting mid-height slopes. The main runs are mostly above the trees but otherwise nicely varied, including a couple of blacks and good scope for off-piste. A lift and red run link the slopes towards Mutters in the next valley. There are a couple of good nursery lifts and two schools. Axams is the best place to stay locally, but there is a 4-star hotel at the lift base.
- Convenient slope-side lodging
- Some quite challenging slopes
- Excellent children’s nursery slopes
- Not much of a village
- Weekend queues
- Exposed upper mountain
