Best tips for La Tania-Val Thorens/Les Menuires/Méribel (Les 3 Vallées)
La Tania is a good-value, family-friendly base from which to explore the slopes of its swanky neighbours, Courchevel and Meribel. The resort was built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, and at 1350m is about the lowest purpose-built French resort you’ll find; its wood-clad buildings sit comfortably in a pretty woodland setting – quite a contrast to the bleakness of many French ski stations. La Tania is set just off the minor road linking Le Praz to Meribel. Free buses go to Courchevel and there’s a service to Meribel during the French school holidays.
- Part of the Three Valleys, with good access to Courchevel and Meribel
- Long runs through woods to the village: a great place in a storm
- Attractive, compact, traffic-free village
- Much improved snowmaking, but …
- At this altitude, snowmaking is vital in most seasons
- Limited village facilities
- Village nursery slope gets through-traffic (but higher one does not)
- The one long green run is not genuinely easy
