RESORT DESCRIPTION FOR La Tania-Val Thorens/Les Menuires/Méribel (Les 3 Vallées)

The ski resort Les 3 Vallées – Val Thorens/Les Menuires/Méribel/Courchevel is located in the Tarentaise (France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Savoie Mont Blanc, Savoie, Albertville). For skiing and snowboarding, there are 600 km of slopes and 50 km of ski routes available. 143 lifts transport the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,100 and 3,230 m.

The ski resort, Les 3 Vallées – the three valleys – connects the valleys of Courchevel, Méribel and the Vallée des Belleville with Saint Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens to form one of the largest connected ski resorts in the world. The different valleys also offer a variety of landscapes from High Alpine terrain with cliffs and Alm meadows to slopes through the forests – and the space between the slopes is accessible for freeriders. There are also connections to the ski resort with gondolas from Orelle and Brides-les-Bains, which are not located in the valleys.

Best tips for La Tania-Val Thorens/Les Menuires/Méribel (Les 3 Vallées)

La Tania is a good-value, family-friendly base from which to explore the slopes of its swanky neighbours, Courchevel and Meribel. The resort was built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, and at 1350m is about the lowest purpose-built French resort you’ll find; its wood-clad buildings sit comfortably in a pretty woodland setting – quite a contrast to the bleakness of many French ski stations. La Tania is set just off the minor road linking Le Praz to Meribel. Free buses go to Courchevel and there’s a service to Meribel during the French school holidays.

  • Part of the Three Valleys, with good access to Courchevel and Meribel
  • Long runs through woods to the village: a great place in a storm
  • Attractive, compact, traffic-free village

  • Much improved snowmaking, but …
  • At this altitude, snowmaking is vital in most seasons
  • Limited village facilities

  • Village nursery slope gets through-traffic (but higher one does not)
  • The one long green run is not genuinely easy
