Best tips for Val Thorens (Les 3 Vallées)
Val Thorens remains a top place for the enthusiast looking for the best snow available and fast lifts to whizz you around. For a late trip, in particular, it’s the best base in the wonderful Three Valleys. Val Thorens is a classic purpose-built resort, high above the treeline at the head of the valley it shares with Les Menuires and St-Martin. Buses to/from Les Menuires are supposed to carry just pedestrians and cross-country skiers, not downhillers – crazy!
- Extensive slopes for all abilities, plus access to the Three Valleys
- One of the most snow-sure resorts
- Fastest lift system in France
- Compact, with ski-in/out lodgings
- Not a tree in sight
- Away from the front de neige, not an attractive place to walk around
- Not ideal for non-skiers
- Some very crowded pistes and dangerous intersections
